Are women more petty than men?

When someone creates a Facebook post out of the blue and asks a question, it's a safe bet that someone is trying to get the ball rolling on a conversation that may soon turn into an all-out debate.

I've heard a lot of people say that "women are more petty than men" or its variations. I don't know how true this is or if this is just something women say when they are being petty to a woman. Lol.

I did some research on the internet and found some interesting articles. According to this article on Huffington Post, research has shown that women are more likely to hold a grudge than men. The study found that "women reported feeling more resentful, more offended and more victimized than men." The article goes on to say that "petty arguments are more likely to escalate into big fights between women than between men."

Another interesting article I found was this one on Psychology Today. This article claims that the reason women are more petty than men is because they are more emotionally intelligent than men. The article says that "Because women are more in touch with their feelings, they are also more in touch with the feelings of others. This gives them a keener sense of when someone has wronged them." The article goes on to say that " women are also more likely to get their revenge by talking about the person who wronged them to others. This is because they know that gossip is one of the most powerful weapons in the arsenal of emotional intelligence." So, it seems that the reason women are more petty than men is because they are more emotionally intelligent. What do you think? Are women more petty than men? Why or why not?
